About me

I am an elementary school librarian in Central New York.  I’ve worked in libraries most of my working life.  My first “real” job was as a page in the Corning Public Library, now known as the Southeast Steuben County Library. I started there when I was 16 and stayed until I joined the Air Force at 19. Eventually I received my BS in Elementary Education, planning to teach.  As fate would have it, my first job out of college was Children’s Program Coordinator at a local public library.  I was in charge of the toddler time.  What fun! For some reason, the idea of becoming a school librarian didn’t dawn on me until I started to get my Masters in Reading and overheard someone talking about a friend who was a school librarian. That was my “Ah-ha! moment.”  I’m not sure why school librarianship never occurred to me; it seems like it should have been obvious.

In 1998 I joined the third cohort of the Distance Learning Program to complete my MLIS at Syracuse University , graduating in 2000.  I continue to learn and grow with this ever-changing profession.  Only those of us who can adapt to the ever changing information world will survive.  The days of sitting behind a desk passing out bound volumes of paper are disappearing.

I am also the proud (mostly) mother of two teenagers, one of whom is loudly sighing, reminding me that it is now her turn at the computer.

Noticed you have not blogged. I am hoping you are doing okay – the last blog was sad. It takes time.

    Hopefully, you’ll be blogging soon.

I noticed on your bookmark that BLOGLINES is not listed. Is there anyway you can put that on? And I never knew there were so many bookmark feeds.

Thanks. Anne (Librarian student in Seattle)

Thanks for the note Anne. I actually have a lot to blog about, my problem is figuring where to start. I’ll see about adding Bloglines. I’m still learning a lot of this.
